The HITECH Act – part of the 2009 federal stimulus bill – provided over $20 billion in incentive payments to doctors and hospitals for making “meaningful use” of health information technology: electronic health records. PBGH CEO David Lansky is the national purchaser representative on the Health IT Policy Committee created by the law, and is directly involved in defining the criteria for “meaningful use” and health information exchange. Lansky also co-chairs the California state-designated entity for health information exchange, Cal eConnect.
