Better Maternity Care

E-mail Print PDF

In the past ten years, maternity mortality rates have tripled, in part because Cesarean section rates have grown dramatically. C-sections are not only more risky but also costly—usually twice the cost, or thousands of dollars more than a vaginal birth. For this pilot project, PBGH will partner with the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative to reduce the number of c-sections by: gathering data in a maternal care registry; educating hospitals and clinicians; and educating consumers. The project would also help develop incentives to reward those providers who administer the right maternity care to patients.
