Pacadvantage Acquires Assets of Third-Party Administrator, Assumes Management of Functions

San Francisco, Calif. (August 25, 2003) - Pacific Health Advantage (PacAdvantage), the nation’s largest non-profit small business pool for health insurance, has acquired certain assets of its third-party administrator, Benefits Partners Inc. (BPI), based in Roseville, CA. Effective September 1, the purchase brings administrative functions formerly performed by BPI directly under PacAdvantage management, allowing PacAdvantage to directly control significant current and future investments in information technology and plan services.

Since its founding in 1999, BPI has processed enrollment and performed other administrative tasks for PacAdvantage. By acquiring certain assets and by assuming management of former BPI staff previously dedicated to providing services to PacAdvantage, PacAdvantage will directly control crucial services to enrollees, employers, brokers and carriers. As part of a long-term strategic plan to improve its products and service, PacAdvantage is moving swiftly to fully integrate BPI functions into PacAdvantage management. PacAdvantage also obtained a license to BPI’s PX2 administrative services software.

“With administrative services under direct management, we gain added flexibility and precision in serving California brokers, employers and their employees, and carriers,” said John Grgurina, Executive Director of PacAdvantage. “Now, as we hear from our customers what they need, we will be able respond with greater speed and agility.”

The acquisition continues an aggressive effort by PacAdvantage to meet market needs. So far in 2003, PacAdvantage has offered a new PPO option, and out-of-state and cross-border coverage options. Further enhancements to both products and services are planned January 2004, in addition to new product line development.
