Reform of Health Care Delivery Prospects Looking Up
Peter V. Lee Joining Administration
Peter Lee will be joining the Obama Administration to help implement health reform after leading the Pacific Business Group on Health as both CEO and as Executive Director for National Heath Policy. “PBGH’s loss is the nation’s gain. PBGH’s mission has long been to promote the profound changes needed in how health care is organized, paid for and delivered that are central to improving quality and affordability,” said David Lansky, PBGH President and CEO. “Peter has the vision and passion to engage public and private purchasers, consumers, providers and health plans in common cause to produce real changes on the ground.”
Effective June 1st, Lee will assume the post of Director of Delivery System Reform, in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Health Reform. “Over the past ten years we’ve seen PBGH’s value and accountability agenda become the foundation of the national reform agenda,” said Lee. “I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to partner with diverse stakeholders and look forward to continuing that collaboration.”
PBGH’s ongoing strategies to promote innovation in how care is delivered will build both on Lee’s leadership and PBGH’s many ongoing efforts. As Co-Chair and director of the Consumer-Purchaser Disclosure Project, Lee helped launch the Patient Charter for Physician Performance Measurement, Reporting and Tiering Programs which ensures transparency and independent review of health plan-reported quality information. Lee also represented purchaser perspectives on the Board of the National Committee for Quality Assurance, the National Quality Forum and the National Priorities Partnership. Other examples of PBGH's leadership on national health policy issues include David Lansky’s serving on the national HIT Policy Committee to help define “meaningful use” for electronic health records and in California serving as co-chair of Cal eConnect; Dr. Arnold Milstein’s service on MedPAC; and David Hopkins’ leadership in an array of measurement policy making bodies. Lansky will assume Lee's role as co-chair of the Consumer-Purchaser Disclosure Project and looks forward to joining the National Priorities Partnership.
